Routine guide
The school bag list that stops the phone call
Six things, in the same order, checked off by the child rather than by you.
Packing a bag is a memory task disguised as a simple job. Written as a checklist the child ticks themselves, it stops being something you have to remember on their behalf. That is the part that actually costs you.
What actually helps
- Keep it to what changes. Things that live in the bag permanently do not belong on the list.
- Mark the things that are only some days optional, so a short list still counts as finished.
- Do it the evening before if mornings are tight. The list works either way.
- Let them tick it. A list you tick for them is a list they never learn.
Can two children have different lists?
Yes. Every child has their own routines, their own steps and their own settings, and neither of them ever sees the other one.
The routine
🎒 Pack the school bag
- Homework in the bag 2 min
- Lunch and snack 2 min
- Water bottle 1 min
- Gym kit 2 min
- Reading book 1 min
- Bag by the door 1 min
Free for one child and three routines. You can change every step.
Your child sees one step at a time
Not the whole list. The step they are on, big and clear, with the next one quiet underneath, and a count of what is already done. That is the entire child experience, and it is why it works when a chart on the fridge stops working.
